why do catholics believe what their people tell them, instead of what history says?

like they say that Peter was in Rome, so that's why Rome was the main Church. Yet that isn't found anywhere in history outside of the RCC. Now Constantine, who was leader of Rome, wanted power and just made the Roman church the main church, this can be proven since it was political.


so, why listen to their own people instead of history?
