This health care bill has been watered down to the point where it will need changed either way in the future. The time, money, and political capital wasted fighting this hard to pass health care for "all" could have been used to focus on the war in Afghanistan.
I voted for Obama, and support some type of health reform, but I am pragmatic. He struck me as a smart man who would pick up on public sentiments, especially the resistance to all the permutations of plans The Democrats place out there. Why didn't Obama reign in the liberal wing, cut the early losses, and simply start small? He could have proposed a bill that banned insurers from denying those with pre-existing conditions, and Republicans who opposed this would look just plain stupid.
While I feel sorry for those Americans who can't afford Insurance, there are State plans like Medic-Cal, and there is Medi-Caid. People like me can buy insurance, but companies are stupid and deny me coverage for some conditions that are completely out of my control.
Why not start small Obama?
