Why didnt Liverpool try to sign Keisuke Honda ?

The guy is a genius i tell u. remember him at the world cup he did everything for japan. his free kicks are fantastic. he even helped his club cska moscow to the semi final of the champions league last year. Anyway i hope he joins Arsenal in the summer. Honda and Eden hazard :)
