Why did/would you join the military out of the following reasons:?

a. I want to learn special skills
b. I'm just wanting to serve my country
c. The benefits made it seem like a good route
d. I want to kill/stop Insurgents and the Taliban
e. other (state your reason)

I would say a lot of them joined because there were no good jobs to be had and they wanted better for their families. I know because my son did that. I also know they joined for all of the above. Some answers more than others.

My husband was a cab driver at Ft. Stewart, GA. I rode around with him a lot. We heard a lot of stories and were not afraid to ask questions. Some wanted the benefits of not only the Tri Care but the GI Bill....et al, college, VA loans, stable environment, but to actually serve thier country. One soldier had so much pride that he PCS'd and went back early because he got his dream destiny and he could go back. He said he would do it all again and would protect our country over and over again.

There were some who bit off more than they could chew. They let you know it.
There were some who saw stuff they didn't want to talk about but you could see it on their faces.

Most were gracious and shared their stories. I am honored to have known them. Hooah! Rock of the Marne! (3 ID)

E./C. - I'm joining to provide for my family. After this deployment my husband is getting out, but my husband and I are ready to start having kids. In the Army we'll have a steady pay check, housing, medical, dental, college money, and I'm getting a nice bonus. I don't think I could find a deceit paying job w/o having a degree and be able to live as well as we can in the Military. So I have decided the Military is the right path for me right now.

A. - I am going to be a linguist. The Army is going to be teaching me a foreign language. :-D

B. - As it is getting closer to my ship date I am feeling more proud/patriotic about becoming a soldier in the United States Army.
