Why did the idea that energy came in quanta lead to quantum "weirdness"?

I understand that Max Planck suggested energy arrived in discrete quanta to solve the problem of black body radiation and this was the start of quantum mechanics. Perhaps I am being naive, this concept might be a bit strange but not incredible, yet within a short period quantum theory developed the uncertainty principle and the paradox of Schrodinger cat which I find literally incredible. Why does Planck's hypothesis lead to this.
