Some fish might live a short life and others might live a very long one.
It could have been a shock, if it's heart gets weak sometimes a "surprise" could scar the fish or even kill it.

My fish had alive for 3 years. It was a goldfish I got at a fair. It was happy and fed and we cleaned the bowl properly. He survive for 3 years!!!!! But today i went to go feed my fish and it was dead. It wasnt floating at the top or anything but it was doing a back bend and wasnt breathing. It was dead!!!! We couldnt understand what went wrong! Do u guys know??
I didn't mean BOWL! i meant fish bowl! geez people! Lol:)
IT IS A TANK I JUST CALL IT A BOWL! Get a hold of yourself u people!
You guys need to listen! IT is a tank! I call it a bowl! Because when i was younger i did! it is a square tank!! with pretty rocks at the bottom. It did live a long time. I kept good care of it and out of knowhere it went bye bye.

What sized tank?

Goldfish have a life span of 20+ years and obviously yours died prematurely. When kept in such a small environment a fish has no room to grow and eventually dies. One fantailed variety of goldfish should have no less that a 20 gallon tank with double filtration. If your Goldie was in anything smaller without filtration, it probably had no chance of thriving.

You have to be keen on what you say here because many people, including myself are totally against bowls. When it comes to one of the most mis-treated fish in the world, you end up getting frustrated.

if it's from a fair it's not gonna last too long, yeah three years is a looooong time, but you were probably just lucky

just like to let you know, that it did not die because it was in a bowl...bettas and goldfish are one of the only fish that can be kept alive in a bowl with no filter....just so you guys know...3 years is a long time for a fish, he was just probably old. if he was healthy and stuff, and just died, it was just his time to go.

im suprised that he lived that long! thats amazing...most goldfish die after like a year or two. you must have taken really good care of it!

It is a crap-shoot with fish. They die unexpectedly. It could be their life cycle, or it could be a contaminant in your water supply. Probably just old age. Fish don't live long, with the exception of a few.

Answer: You had it in a bowl!
FYI: Did you know bowls are illegal in some parts of Europe. Its animal cruelty.
Sorry to hear about your fish

Did you know goldfish can live over 20 years!...

Did you know goldfish can grow larger than 2.5ft...do the math in what kind of a "bowl" you can have it in.
