OK, I thought I wanted to but a Dodge caliber, and then I had a chance to rent one in Boston/ I drove it out on the Mass Pike and into the Boston suburbs.

I like the car, but I decided that I could not live with the road noise. This car had about 26k on the odometer and was in decent shape for a rental.

I was wondering if anyone who knows about cars can tell me why this car has so much road noise? Did I just have one with bad tires?

I like to listen to music and I decided that the road noise was just too high to listen to music and would frustrate me, I mean as a commuter car. I guess I don't want this car. Or did I get a bad one?

I had a dodge neon and I have had hondas and toyotas and the dodge had the same issue, they dont put as much material into the car to dampen the noise like a Lexus or a Mercedes.

You might have gotten a bad one, but the surest way to find out is to test drive at a dealer. You probably won't get very fast but you might be able to tell if the noise is too much.

Also, that car looks noisy--windy, that is. The more air resistance, the more noise you'll hear. Minivans and SUVs tend to be a bit noisier.
