Hey guy's I'm doing a school assignment, so I need lots and lots of information on Helens. My first main question is why did it erupt? Only source I could find was Wiki. Could anybody provide me with an answer, and a reference if possible. Also I really need information on facts like how much damage did the eruption cost, how did regional support help, ect ect... Thanks!

Volcanoes erupt, that's what they do. There's no 'why' about it.

Cost was about $1 billion:

The page has a lot on it, so hit "Edit--> Find" on your browser and type "cost" and you will find the paragraph talking about how much it cost, as well as information on regional support.

By the way, you can usually use Wikipedia to find good sources. That's what the little blue number at the end of a sentence means, it is a link to a valid source.
