many reasons,- first and foremost is water is necessary to survive we all need water to drink, later when civilization turned from hunters and gathers to an agrarian society water was necessary to water crops and for farm animals. once the village had crops they needed a way to transport their goods for trade. water was a great way to cheaply and efficiently transport large amount of goods at a CHEAP price flesh this out and you will have a fine essay answer. p.s i "assist" with term papers a reasonable rates e-mail if interested.

Water is the essential for life. We need it to drink and it is used to irrigate crops.

Edit: Water also acts as a natural boundry for defense.
