Why did Mainstream music turn bad around 1998 and why hasn't it gotten better since?

I remember 1998 Nu Metal became the most popular genre in Rock and goofy dance Pop came back in style. (Britney Spears, Nsync, etc.) I hated it all from the start. In the 2000's there was an occasional song or band I liked but most of what was on the radio was Nu Metal, watered down Nu Metal, or Nickelback sounding crap. In fact, it's still what's being played on the radio today! WHY?!!! Why do people like that crap? I just don't get it. I hate it! Now there are a lot of bands I like from the 2000's and early 2010's that are either not mainstream or they had a song or two in the mainstream but that was it. None of it is close to the crap on the radio. Not Emo crap either. That music was lame teeny bopper music. But today we still have stuff on the radio that sounds like stuff from 10 years ago. Why is society doing this? And "reality" shows too. What the hell? Why are people doing this to the world with bad music and bad TV shows for over a decade now? It's an unorganized question but maybe you'll still get it.

yep, I totally agree with you that tere isn't so much of great music these days. All we have are just bunch of pop stars and singers discovered via talent shows. Well, they capitalize over the singer's ability to "sell" rather than "sing" and make good music, right?

Apart from that, musicians rely so much on technology to create music, creat image and creat a fake voice. I mean, out of 50 singers out there, I bet there is only one who can truly sing. You agree with me? Music today seems like a big den for scandal makers and fashionistas!
