Why did Lincoln use 'Major Tom' to advertise its new Lincoln MKS car?

Cool song, cool rendition, and a cool commercial. It compares the car to a rocket ship. But did they listen to the whole song? It ends in a technological disaster killing the astronaut.

Maybe they were hoping nobody knew how the song ended! That's pretty funny. I've always liked that song even though it's really tragic.
