I don't understand why i didn't get financial aid. I only made $18,626 last year and I live alone and pay all my bills. I was unemployed for 9 months out the year and received unemployment and food stamps but I was still denied financial aid for school? My EFC is 4721 and I applied for a Community College. Could it be possible that i filled out something wrong?

It depends on where you live. When I lived in Texas and applied for financial aid for community college, I was denied certain financial help because I was under the age of 25 and my parents made too much money. It's weird how that goes because I barely made enough money to keep food on my table and my parents couldn't share any of their money since they could barely pay their bills as well. It's an interesting question and I'd suggest going to talk to a financial aid advisor to see why you were denied. That's how I found out why I was. Best of luck!

Yeah the EFC to Income is quite unusual, but my mom applied for CHIP (Children's Health Insurance Program) for me and they turned her down, she resent it and they accepted it after a lengthy phone call. Apparently a reject happy intern shot down her application. But when my sister applied for welfare, they didnt believe that our family was striving on such a low income, so this also is like a no way, ur lieing type thing. So consult the Financial Aide Specialist you spoke with. Or talk to the dean of admissions at the college. G2G 2 sleep. Hope I Helped. Good Luck, maybe it was the EFC thing, maybe it was an error, companies like that dont like to give out loans, or in me moms case, Insurance. See ya! Good Luck Man.

Savings can count as part of it; and a community college is pretty cheap, which counts against you (if you have to pay less, then your need is less, and you get less aid).

um maybe, because your EFC is pretty high for making 18,000, but since you have already recieved government help that really dents what they will do for you regarding the pell grant, so the food stamps might have hurt your chances alot

Yeah, you filled something out incorrectly. I come from a middle-class family and my EFC was around $3000. $4721 seems HIGHLY unreasonable, given your economic situation. Either that, or getting a Pell Grant now requires the applicant to be unemployed and homeless . . .
