Why Did He Text Me...?

Okay so I haven't talked to this guy in a few weeks and today he sent me a text saying "Hey really how much do I mean to you?" I was confused because it had come out of no where. Like the last time I talked to him (few weeks ago), he said we would never be together because he knew I liked him. I texted him "what?" but never got a reply. Can anyone help on why he asked me that question? Please
