why did Ann Rinaldi choose to write about historical fiction ?

my English teacher said that there a specific reason and its on every search engine but all i found was :
"Rinaldi says she got her love of history from her eldest son, who brought her to reenactments. She says that she writes young adult books "because I like to write them.""
is that right ?
