Why did all the Republicans vote "nay"?

Have you bothered to read The proposed "stimulous package ?"House bill HR1... If you had,you would know that no intelligent person would vote for that nonsense.4 billion for payback to Acorn for getting Obama elected.12 billion for expanded computer technology so the feds can 'monitor' every citizens activities...and 150 million for health care for the poor....THAT bs is going to stimulate the economy ? HUH ??? READ IT and educate yourself PRIOR to running your mouth.

That goes to show how much they really care about this country, they're still pissed about President Barack Obama beating mcFAILin in the election !Just what i thought, repubs are sore losers, they' rather let the country go to hell then try to fix it....after all it was their guy who screwed us royally for 8 years ! !

Because conservatives are stronger - they don't need government handouts, they would rather fend for themselves. It's liberals (feminists, gays, artists, academics, some minorities) who need the government to protect them.

Because they refuse to fund ACORN, or nonsense like resodding the Capital Mall lawn.

Obama mislead the people. He said a large part would be to rebuild infrastructure. But less than 5% is for that. Most is spending on bull crap pet projects and making welfare checks bigger. Stop telling lies !

All the Republicans voted against the "stimulate a deeper, longer recession" package because THAT is what it will do. This is not even a debatable point. Even Obama said it would. If someone told you Obama made compromises, they're a liar. He simply tried to cajole them into voting for it AS IS, with NO GOP input on its contents. Republicans refused to share the blame for Obama's debacle. They're insisting on a plan that has at least ONE element that hasn't already been PROVED to damage economies but he just won't have it.11 WORRIED Democrats voted against it so they wouldn't be fired next election. They ALL supported it but those 11 literally asked Dear Leader for permission to vote "no" to save their own jobs.

Didja ever find anything about the useless pork-stuffed, govt super-sized, money wasting pile of democratic crap? Here's the link to what's in it. Lots of 'feel good' pork, but hardly nothing that will really make a long term difference.http://wsbradio.com/blogs/jamie_dupree/2009/01/highlights-of-the-house-stimul.html

It is quite embarrassing that they did, particularly when over 30% of the package is tax decreases. They have set the tone and unfortunately now have to live with it. I guess the Reps from Tennessee and Georgia don't think a Democrat will ever get elected. They thought that in North Carolina, Virginia and Indian in 2008. Life has a way of biting you on the ass when you least expect it.

I agree with you. Obama didn't need their votes to get the bill passed, but he still compromised with them because he wanted to reach across the aisle like he promised in his campaign. They're just stubborn, sore losers.

Well because what I've seen of this poor excuse for a stimulus bill I don't see much in the way of creating jobs, or jobs that mean something, like those that would get our infrastructure up from the "D" rating it was given recently, or start the conversion to renewable energy, both of which would put people to work and do what the country badly needs, only about 80 billion of an 850 billion dollar bill would be going to infrastructure, what the hell is that?, it's peanuts and it's pathetic that we really need logical leadership and we're getting the same old pork barrel crap.

The Repubs were put in place by big business and industry interests, so naturally they're going to vote "nay" on a stimulus bill that doesn't cater primarily to the special interests that stuffed their campaign coffers. The GOP is only interested in using stimulus money to provide "immediate relief" rather than investing in the future infrastructure of this country that might provide green tech jobs for millions, give people more opportunity to educate themselves, and help alleviate health care costs for those that can't afford healthcare. For the Repubs, that's just too idealistic and "wasteful spending." The GOP has always been weary of change and progress, as the status quo is more profitable, and toeing the party line means more to them than working to get anything done. They'd rather play an obstructionist role to keep anything from getting done so that they can blame the Democrats and win back congress in the coming elections.

Well for one thing, if you ask a Republican Congressman, he will probably tell you that his phone rang off the hook with people calling telling him to vote No. I know my Congressman would say that, because I knew several who called. This bill was a piece of crap. I'd go for spending money on infrastructure but when only $50 billion out of $850 billion will go for that (6%) it tells me that the Democrats are only paying lip service to the infrastructure needs of the nation. Also the so called tax cuts are a gimmick. Their throwing chump change at us and saying they cut taxes. This bill spends something close to $270,000 per job it creates. Might as well just send out $50,000 checks to each person and save the difference.
