I have a 1987 civic hatchback that has 114,000 mi. (i know!!) It's been a good little car to me, as it was only supposed to be my $600 band-aid car after my 99 hatch was stolen!! I have since replaced the 99, and I've had the 87 off the road for a little bit, but I've decided I need to dust her off and take advantage of the 45 mpg I get with her! My main concern with her is this: whenever I travel long distances (over 20 mins) at about 50mph or higher, my temp. gauge starts to go up. I have been lucky enough to catch it before it goes all the way, and I make sure I turn the heat on full blast to get it to go back down. It does after a few minutes, then we start the cycle all over again. I'm a little strapped for cash, and I'm trying to find out what it could be, and how much I'm going to have to save up to get it fixed. I have mechs. to do labor for cheap, I'll just need parts. I'm hoping it's something simple, because I'd love to get this lil' economical girl back on the road
FYI- The prob. is better in the winter, but it doesn't really have to be all that hot out for the problem to occur. It's happened in 60 degree weather...
