...correctness gone too far? For example, my question about Michelle Obama or about social programs and reform. Why do some people, feel the need to insult others instead of sharing their thoughts is a logical and intellectual manner?
Have we become so politically correct that we cannot even share our own opinions without a verbal lashing from others?
Okay, I phrased this question incorrectly. I am tired of the personal attacks and Jerry Springer type environment that some posters create.

By the way - I graduated from college & think that we can have intelligent discussion without being on a college campus.
 
Ad hominem attacks are the method of choice on the internet. Get used to it. If you want a meaningful discussion about politics, try a political science course at college.

And verbally assaulting someone is not politically correct.
 
Political correctness is nothing more than an attempt to silence political descent. It comes to us from totalitarian regimens all over the world where people where persecuted for not “saying the right things”. Political correctness is a handy thing for people that have no views of their own and therefore no logical arguments in their favor.
 
We have become too politically correct. The complaints about people saying Merry Christmas being an example. There's a lot of unrest among the people these days and one person's point of view turns other people into raging lunatics. You just don't see many people who can speak rationally about a topic without someone bashing the source or making insults.

As far as Michelle Obama and her social programs. I am going to reserve my opinion for now on why she believes social programs will work in the US when they have obviously failed every where else. I saw a video of her explaining to a classroom of elementary kids that some people need to give up their piece of the pie. I don't like that theory. I might if this country hasn't already become so dependent on the government. There's just too many people who believe they are entitled. What happened to the good old days when people actually understood what the government was for. It is certainly not suppose to dictate, govern everthing in our lives or control the states' power. But that's where we are heading.
 
I think it may be a maturity issue. I agree with you. We shouldn't judge each other.
 
We should. However, we must have valid points to support our argument. We must also take into account the empirical data that already exists. If the research that exists proves one thing, we cannot persist based on emotional bias.
