Why can't the "HoN" series stop at the 4th book? Then come out with a 5th?!?

Ok some of you probably don't know what i'm talking about, but, its a series called the "House of Night" series. By P.C. and Kristen Cast. A mother and daughter team. If you've recently bought the 4th book and looked ahead in the back there's a 5th coming out right into the next year! I'm looking forwards to it yes, but its kinda irritating that you have to get all 5 books just to read them all! What's up with that?
