Why can't the Chinese join the rest of modern civilization and update their calendar?

That is because, Chinese people follow the lunar calendar. (The Moon)

Whilst "Modern Civilization" as you call it. Follow the sun.

Because Chinese New Year is better than "Modern civilization New Year"

Our families gather and celebrate Chinese New Year. By families, I mean the whole family: brothers, sisters, mom, dad, uncles, aunties, grandma, grandpa, nephews, niece, everyone...

And the best part is: family member whose not married yet, get "angpao" which is money that was put inside a red envelopes from the other family members that has been married.

You're just jealous 'cause your "Modern Civilization New Year" doesn't gives you more money. It only gives you headache and drunk ticket in the next morning.
