I recently went to my first highschool dance function (I'm a senior) and remembered why I hated them. I was particularly disappointed by how nobody was actually doing anything that resembled dancing. There were 2 dance-like motions that I noticed. The most common one was that would just stand there and move their hips around like they have to pee. The other was basically just a bunch of kids dry humping each other in pairs or groups. I was kind of peeved by this so I one upped everyone by doing the Melbourne shuffle (like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPaMdxC6CQI). Also their music is complete and utter trash. It's just some poorly composed synths with a black guy in the background swearing and saying sexually explicit things.
Anyway the point was how did this come to be? Are all highschool dances like this? Was there ever any actual dancing?
