Why can't I upgrade from my Samsung Gravity to a G1?

I currently have a Samsung Gravity and i hate it! Its so boring and im just getting sick of it!!! I took a look at the G1 and fell in love!!! I would really like to have it so i logged into my t-mobile account and clicked on upgrade. So i chose for it to show me all phones and the G1 wasnt there? is there a reason for this? Do i have to stick with my contract a little longer or something? PLEASE ANSWER SOON I CANT TAKE MY UGLY SAMSUNG GRAVITY ANY LONGER
