Why can't I transfer a JAR file that is 1.4MB in size from my computer to my phone?

My phone has a 1GB memory and has about 400MB free space left. I used the Nokia PC Suite to transfer a few other JAR applications which were less than 100kb and they worked. I am using the Nokia 6288 phone. How can I transfer this 1.4MB file into the phone? Am I encountering problems because the phone cannot support applications that are so large? The error banner that pops up states that the file is too large...by the way I am using a USB cable for the transfers.
