Why can't I jailbreak or restore my ipod touch again?

My ipod is an ipod touch 2g. It was jailbroken on firmware 3.1.2, but I upgraded it to 4.1.2. I tried to jailbreak it again using redsn0w, but the program stopped working when it was jailbreaking. I tried to restore it to 4.0 using DFU mode, but it didn't work. Now I'm not sure what to do, please help!
