why can't i hold elise's hand for the quest (A lost romance)?

I am on the quest "A lost romance" and I am supposed to go on a date with elise, but i can't hold her hand. I have even tried making her hate me and starting all over to have her like me again, but it still isn't working. is there something im doing wrong or is it a glitch?
