Why Can't I Eat Properly?

So, how do I make myself eat the way I'm supposed to? I'm rarely hungry anymore, and when I do eat, I have to force myself to. Sometimes the prospect of food makes me feel sick to my stomach.

Here's the catch though. If I don't eat, I get dizzy. If I get dizzy, I get nauseated. If I get nauseated, I'm saying my prayers to the porcelain god.

So... what the fuck am I supposed to do?

Sounds like your stomach has shrunk or something.

I don't know if you try to eat the generic "three meals per day" or whatnot, but if you do try splitting it up into five or six meals with smaller portions throughout the day. It's supposed to be better for your metabolism or some shit. Maybe that'll help somehow.

But then again I know dick about that kind of stuff so take it with a grain of salt. Just trying to help. :happysad:

The best way to keep your digestive system going and not overfill yourself is to eat a bunch of small meals with little snacks in between; that way, you don't really feel too hungry but you never feel completely full.

Snack! Healthy snacks or some sort of shake that you can drink that will give your body some nutrients.

Get you some vitamins as well if you aren't already taking them,... which you should be!

Oh trust me. I've been taking vitamins since I had my three month sickeness.

I think I'm going to try to do the smaller portions thing. It's gotten gradually worse, and it started when I had my appendectomy. I know that doesn't have jack shit to do with it, but still. It all started from that point, and has gradually gotten to where if I don't force myself to eat, I go without eating sometimes for up to two days.

Might be a psychological issue. Not being hungry for so long is not a normal bodily reaction. When I get really stressed about something, I have to force myself to eat. It is purely mental. Not sure if this is the case, but it might be worth checking in to.

Well you shouldn't take this lightly.
Even if this came after the appendectomy, it is not normal and can lead to anorexia.
First of all, if you don't feel like eating you should take complements.
When I started going to the gym, I discovered Whey Protein and stuff, that are flavored powders to mix with milk or do in some other ways that have lots of nutrients. Even if you're not wheigt lifting it could be beneficial to you as it takes little eating and gives you a lot.

Anyway, you MUST see a doctor if this keeps going on. You can't go two days straight without eating, that can lead to serious damage to your body. You'll run out of fat and therefore of calories, making the body consume muscle in order to produce energy.

Ferengi is right, your stomach shrunk. It happens to me when I get sick because I only get sick like once every 3 years, so when it happens my body does a swan dive for the worst.

What I usually do is force myself to eat a hundred calories every hour, increasing the calorie intake when I feel like I can eat more. Eating at this rate speeds up your metabolism, but it will also make you hungrier, and thus you can eat more, until you get back to a normal appetite.

I'm guessing that three months of having to drink my food didn't help either, huh?

I'll try some things out (and Fyn, when I move to Oklahoma, I've got plenty of protein shakes and stuff that 3D has) and see what works best.

I lol'd

To add to the advice concerning smaller meals, also try to eat less raw foods in the beginning. These foods take more effort for your body to digest, and can wreak havoc on your system. Raw veggies and fruits will be particularly hard on you to begin with, so try lightly steamed veggies or dried fruits as snacks.

My friend went through the same thing. It was fucking weird but he eventually get out of it. I think his was started by anxiety from school and other shit. I would just say to try and be as healthy as possible, maybe exersize or something and eat healthy foods. Good luck with finding a solution.

When you say 3 month sickness what do you mean? I have a friend who is a functional nutritionist with his specialty being digestive, immune system and adrenal function. I would be happy to talk to him for you. Send me over a private message and we can talk about it. He saved my life.

I had mononucleosis and the coxsackie virus at the same time a few months back. I was bedridden for three months, and lost 30 lbs. I couldn't eat my food at all - I had to drink it, and I was rarely hungry then. Even so, it hurt for anything to go down my throat as it was swollen from the mono and had ulcers all the way down to my stomach from the coxsackie.

Feel free to send over any tips you might have. I'll gladly take them. Right now I'm working on the 'small meals throughout the day' thing.
