Why can't I download torrents?

This is my first time downloading torrents. I'm using Vuze, and I'm trying to download a torrent from torrent website. It says it's downloaded but when I try to launch the file it won't open. Instead it'll open a new web tab and it's blank. Could someone help me?
I have tried opening it with Vuze( i chose azureus?) all that pops up is a blank web tab and a small window from vuze pops up saying that it doesn't appear to be a torrent file, some data received: unable to properly display the data. did i not click the right "download" link or so?? also i downloaded this from pirate bay.org. It's babylon translator pro. v.9
 
Right-click the .torrent file in your file explorer.
Select "Open with"
Choose the program you want to use to open the file (in this case it would be Vuze)
