why can't i download torrents?

I used to be able to, but now when i click download in pirate bay or whatever it just doest do anything, it sits there unresponsive. and if I'm lucky to even get it into utorrent it does not download, all the connections time out, there are no seeds or leeches even if the file said it had plenty
thanks for the quick answer, but i tried that and the download bar in the address just stops after an inch...

btw i use mac
