Why can't a blackberry become prepaid?

You actually can have a BlackBerry become a prepaid - if say it's flashed for Cricket. The down side is that the phone's email function (the BlackBerry email server) will not work. Also, if you get someone that doesn't know what they're doing, some other features will not work. Best to ask around for someone that can flash it and get some features such as SMS, MMS to work.

Actually, you're better off just buying one that is meant for the service - then you get all the features to work and that's typically what most users are looking for.

BlackBerry makes the carrier service (AT&T, Verizon, etc) pay them for their email service - which is why those carriers require you to have a data plan because they are passing the cost onto you as well as making a profit.

What are the phones that can become prepaid that weren't originally meant for it like ones that were on a network for a plan
