run on the biodiesel/water? We already have the technology for cars that run on biodiesel or water, we know they work. Why are the car manufacturers still mass producing these gas guzzling cars. The government needs to offer them incentives for producing these new cars, instead of propping them up in these economic times to do what they have always been doing, which we know is damaging our environment. We can still provide gas for the cars that exsist for probably another 5 to 8 years. But lets faise them out, just like we did the analogue mobile phone. It cost a bit but people just had to change. Just do it, stop thinking about how much it is going to cost us in our hip pocket and start thinking about what it may cost our children.

The oil lobby and its influence vastly trump the influence of our planet and its environs itself, sadly.

The same reason that turkeys don't vote for thanksgiving: people in power make a lot of money from big oil.

Short Answer...

Because Republicans are all beholden to the Saudi Oil lobbyists (which include our domestic oil too) and they won't tolerate anything more fuel-efficient than a Hummer.

There have been all sorts of improvements made to foreign cars and they are FAR more efficient, but our USA government will not let those cars be imported because they want us all guzzling gas at 2-5 $ per gallon.
