Why are tropical fish, in general, more brightly colored than non-tropical fish?

because everything is so bright underwater, like coral. so they have to blend in. maybe its also to ward off predators . bright colours scare predators. so i learned about butterflies and poisionous frogs...

brightly colored fish can disguise themselves more easily around brightly colored coral so it is easier for them to hide from their predators.
