Why are there so many empty snail shells in my garden?

We recently moved into a house with garden. With the weather being so fine, I started doing some gardening; but I keep finding empty snail shells of all shapes and sizes in between roots and flower leaves...
Don't know whether to throw them away or to keep them (in case the snails come back for them)
 
throw them out or let them decompose in your garden the snails aren't coming back for them...LOL
The snails died and that is what is left you don't want the snails anyway they chew up everything
