important, but others ignored.? In the same bit of The Bible that talks about gayness, there is stuff about not shaving, and not sitting on chairs a lady with a period has sat on. Why aren't those things discussed over and over and people who do it made to feel bad about themselves?

I guess cos the things discussed are moral issues that are still evident in todays society, such as abortion, euthanasia etc.

I mean, not shaving and stuff were just traditions of the time, not religious laws as such.
Plus, not shaving? Ew. I bet even the Pope disagrees with THAT :P

What's funny is I was just reading Matthew Chapter 15 today, and Jesus told people to guard against just that behavior.

1Then some Pharisees and teachers of the law came to Jesus from Jerusalem and asked, 2"Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They don't wash their hands before they eat!"

3Jesus replied, "And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition? 4For God said, 'Honor your father and mother'[a] and 'Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.' 5But you say that if a man says to his father or mother, 'Whatever help you might otherwise have received from me is a gift devoted to God,' 6he is not to 'honor his father[c]' with it. Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition. 7You hypocrites!

Remember that verse, it'll be useful!

Because religious people like to pick and choose out of their holy books to make their religion fit for them. That's about the best answer I've come up with. You forgot to mention that that the OT also talks about slavery, forced marriage, murder, and pillaging.
