Why are refurbished electronics cheaper?

Like someone said, someone returns a broken product and it gets fixed. Me, I like to have all new electronics. Even if its repaired technically, It may or may not have a scratch, dent, or other hardware defect. I always go new. For example I got a TV with a scratch on it once before. Could this be refurbished, maybe.

Refurb items are basically used but factory reconditioned; they usually even have a warranty. They really aren't lower quality, but they might have minor cosmetic problems like small scratches. I've bought several refurb items like iPods, and haven't been disappointed.
