presidential debates? ? They are not just two guys in gorilla suits looking for their fifteen minutes of fame, as some would have the public believe. Each is on enough state ballots to have a mathematical chance of winning enough electoral college votes to actually pull off a win. I can't shake the feeling that the only candidates we hear about on the news have been determined by marketing men and spin doctors to be "salable" to the populace, and they’re now being "homogenized and packaged" for display and sale at the Presidential Debates. I also can‘t shake the feeling that the business of the federal government has a secondary, hidden agenda that does not have anything to do with what‘s best for the public. I can’t shake the feeling that the fundamentals of the US Constitution have become mere technicalities. I can’t shake the feeling that the “two party system” is hoping we are too absorbed in our daily lives and this bizarre, political version of pro-wrestling “Smackdown“ (complete with smack talk, hot babes and lipstick) to notice. Help me out here - people on BOTH sides talk about "holding their noses" and voting along the party line for the lesser of two evils. People (who cannot be “connected” to the candidates) are just blatantly making stuff up to pit one side against the other. But for anyone in the general public working 40+ hrs. a week and barely able to meet the commitments of life as it is, you REALLY have to go out of your way to find out that there are other options. Is everyone just too burnt out to care anymore? Is that, perhaps, what the Republicans and Democrats are counting on? I understand we can’t have every idealogue with a pet issue getting in to the debates, but in the case of Nader and Barr, it appears to be a concerted effort to suppress valid third parties and dissenting voices - and frankly it‘s a little scary. What do YOU think?
