why are quiznos employees and managers so cheap?

I went in with a 'free' sub coupon today they eyeballed it they started talking to themselves in another language, and took some meat off my sandwich. I went a couple other times and they give me the evil eye when I asked for a little extra lettuce. It wouldn't be a big deal but it's not like its that expensive, I dont even get cheese. I think im trying a new place.. why are they such cheapskates?
