Why are poets so sensitive?

Is it just me or are most poets the same kind of people who can't take even the slightest direct criticism without considering the critic totally out of line and taking everything super-personally?

I hate poetry BTW.

Poetry is the act of sharing an intimate detail, thought, or idea of a poet.
Truly great poets, however, can take criticism without responding. They can decide for themselves whether or not they agree with your remarks, but do not need to voice their concurrence or dissent.
So, if the criticism was not a personal attack on the poet, then they would not be considered a truly great poet, just somebody using poetry as a means to seek approval.
