Why are people so mad that GM and other companies have factories outside the US? ?

So we always here about how GM and other big Corporations are evil for sending jobs overseas and taking away jobs from hardworking Americans.

But aren't companies like GM just doing what they need to survive?

For instance if you were to guess the average wage of a Professor who has a Doctorate vs a guy or gal who only graduated from high school (if even that) wouldn't the logical answer be something along "The professor should be making at least $50,000 a year, the other guy/gal should be making $14.00 an hour" ?

The problem is the labor unions have forced the hand of GM and other corporations to make hard decisions for the survival of their companies.

The UAW fights for its workers that have much higher wages (think $22.00+) for people who at the most have a high school diploma, but in the mind of anyone who has a belief in the merit system, that individual who didn't go to college has no business of making $22 an hour just to test if the switch for the window and door locks work. If anything they should be getting $10-$12.

In my opinion it makes much more sense to build a factory in a place where you can pay the employees exactly what they deserve to be paying rather than building a factory in a place where workers are told by a 3rd party that they should be payed the same as someone who worked hard for at least 4 years for a bachelors or in some cases even a masters degree.

What kind of ideology would GM be supporting if they didn't try to get past this barrier. Do we really want future generations to have that mentality of
"why should I go to college? I can go work in a GM factory testing switches all day and make $22 an hour. And, I don't have to work that hard because my Union will fight for me if GM gives me any trouble."

Labor Unions have outlived their usefulness, sure, they were necessary back in the early days of the industrial revolution, organizations like the Knights of Labor and the AFL were needed to make sure employees got fair treatment and have save environments to work in. However, nowadays, those types of abuses are illegal so no employer would be caught doing those types of practices anyway. Now labor Unions really only serve one purpose "to steal" as much money from American corporations.

I'm willing to bet that if the labor unions weren't around today, GM would only have factories in foreign countries for the sole purpose of producing vehicles for that specific country rather than having several factories in foreign countries for the purpose of producing cars for America.
