Relatively speaking, tuition at UC schools is still cheap. I pay nearly as much in Florida where the average salary is substantially lower. Not to mention, California community colleges have the lowest tuition rates in the country at around $20/credit. If these UC students were smart, they'd start their first two years at a CC and then transfer. They can complete an entire AA for less than $1500 in tuition.
