Why are my legs getting weak/heavy when sprinting?

To get ready for soccer season, I had been jogging a mile a day and been playing some football occasionally. But practice started and during drills and fast paced things my legs get weak and I can't move them as fast. Usually I am a fast sprinter but at the end of practice during fitness, after sprinting 20 yards my legs became weak and heavy. I'm not sure if this is lactid acid buildup, but I need advice on how to be able to sprint for longer distances and so my legs don't get so weak. Any advice/help?
