Why are most Jeep Wrangler's 5 speed manual trans and not automatic?

I've been looking to buy a jeep wrangler that I can afford between 1990-1998 and most are 5 speed manual trans I am looking for a auto trans, what wranglers have a auto trans I don't want a Grand Cherokee
