I see lots of young men sportin' pimped out civic coupes. There are many other affordable Japanese coupes, but the Civic rules. Why is that the car of choice? Is the engine particularly open to being modified?

Honda has been on the racing spotlight for generations, and the model meant for racing was actually a Civic! Since the days of EG3, Civic has always been the choice for modifications, simply because of design, durability and many more factors.
I wanted to get an EG3 (second-hand) myself, since buying the current Civic is expensive and only automatic (which I totally dislike) option is available. The Type-R is even more expensive...

its pretty simple to build....parts are easily found.....could source parts and engines from almost all of hondas lines of cars....example as in getting a motor swap from the integra or from the prelude, even from the accord and crv.....getting the suspension from the integra to upgrade the civics.....etc....when you build it up with some aftermarket parts and smoke the shit out of the crusty american muscles, its pretty satisfying....a 4 banger producing 160-250hp smoking a v8 producing 200-400hp......
i dont really like the coupes myself...i prefer the hatchbacks.....
and if toyotas line of cars werent so expensive to build, i rather have a mr2 or a supra to mod....
