Why are "cynics" frowned upon in today's soceity.?

Everyone calls me a cynic, although I believe I am a realist. Just because I dont see the point in things like charity, although there are some important exceptions, saving the planet, I want the death penalty, and am generally miserable and negative about most things. Surely soceity needs this to keep those air headed idiots who believe everythings fine and can be perfect in check. My way is best, as I look at the grim truth rather than the pathetic view many hold, so why is it I always get stick for being so cynical and miserable?! Im a vital part of soceity.
 
I am also a realist - and people need to hear the truth. If they did then there would not be so many idiots wanting to go on idol and you think you can dance.

It is okay to be a cynic - very often I am too; but it is the manner in which you express your views of the grim truth that matters most. If you bring people down with your opinions, the polite response will be for people to call you a "cynic." Try to follow your assertions with commonsense rationale or alternative options to make things better, and you might be heard in a more positive light. No one wants to listen to someone who makes them feel miserable.
