Hi,
I am using a Nokia E63 on Optus (ergh) $19 cap with $15 unlimited SMS/MMS within Australia.
I have downloaded the NEW Nokia Maps using my computer, and used Nokia Map Loader to load maps on. As the E63 doesn't have built-in GPS, I bought the Nokia LD-4W bluetooth GPS receiver to connect with my phone/Nokia Maps so that I can get turn-by-turn drive navigation etc. for free.
With my maps downloaded, and with the bluetooth GPS module, this whole process SHOULD be free. I tried it out yesterday, and I looked at "My Usage" on optus.com today, and it has charged me for "Internet" (which I presume means data charges) at the times I used my phone with the GPS module as a satnav.
Optus was absolutely no help, I spoke to someone who doesn't speak english and we couldn't understand each other.
It has charged me between 3 and 10 cents for each time I used it (it was only briefly, I was trying it out when I went to the supermarket etc.)
I have gone into all the possible connections settings in the phone, and I did find under Menu>Tools>GPS data>Options>Positioning settings, that I had both "Bluetooth GPS" and "Network based" checked (they are the two options listed there). I unchecked "Network based".
Do you think this will stop them charging me? Why are they charging me, if there is no internet connection or anything? (Or at least there won't be now, if I don't allow the phone to use Optus internet in the GPS process?)
Please help!
