My son, who is almost 18, is estranged from my ex due to abuse. He has not seen his "father" for a year. My ex still pays child support until my son is 18. MY question is...will my ex's income count for financial aid once he turns 18? My ex says he won't pay a dime for him after that. The divorce agreement does not force him to. Also, will my husband's income be counted, as "technically" it's not his responsibility? My husband and I don't make a lot, and while we're the ones who will have to help my son pay for college, we don't want him being denied help because my ex makes a lot of money, yet refuses to help. Please advise!
