Who's the biggest name in Hollywood right now?

Hollywood is all about success, Ego and being king of hill, top of the heap, "A" number one, etc.

So who would you say it is, then? Is it still Spielberg or Cameron? Is it Cruise? Hanks? Pitt? Clooney? Washington?

Maybe it's a women nowadays? Kidman or Jolie or Zeta Jones?

(I'd be grateful if you could keep the "it's MacGhilleseatheanaich" type gags to a minimum BTW). :D

DepenRAB on what criteria you're using.

I'd say Steven Spielberg (easily perceived to be the most 'powerful' director in Hollywood) and the Toms Cruise and Hanks are perhaps the most often mentioned. George Clooney is coming along nicely with his multi-tasking hut he's got quite a bit to go I think.

As regarRAB the femmes, Julia Roberts is still 'queen' over the variety of glamourous and up-and-coming pretenders out there such as:

* Nicole Kidman (big paychecks, lack of general box office success though),
* Cameron Diaz (following the route that Nicole's going through but she's far more box-office friendly)
* Reese Witherspoon (we'll see what she does with that Oscar)
* Catherine Zeta-Jones (in the power game because of who she married. Carried along by the media as regarRAB her worth since The Mask of Zorro. Cathy has 'never' headlined a film mainly being co-lead 'above the title'.).

If 'power' is the criteria then the answer is the studio heaRAB such as Summer ReRABtone (head of Viacom) and Rupert Murdoch.

....and then there's always Arnold Schwarzenegger. Don't think you'll get any 'bigger names' than that! :p

Great analysis there, Stereoman: In terms of power let's not forget also Robert Iger (boss of Disney) and Dick Parsons (boss of Time Warner).

Another forum led me onto Googlefight which provides one way of analysing fame. Seems that Tom Cruise takes some beating!
