Who won the first presidential debate?

There is no winner, it's just part of a larger whole, whose results will be known in November. Everything until then is just speculation.

Though I saw enough of it to be reasonably concerned about the desirability of either candidate.

I feel that Obama won the debate. He was strong and much more presidential than McCain. He was able to look McCain in the eyes. McCain kept looking down, and he would not talk directly to Obama. I don't know if that is because it is harder to tell a lie directly to someone's face, but McCain just did not look presidential. McCain also distorted the truth, and Obama had to correct him several times. McCain did not have to correct Obama. Obama also showed that he truly has better judgment.

Also, this debate was on foreign policy. This was the debate McCain was supposed to win because he is the alleged foreign affairs expert out of the two. The fact that McCain did not come off stronger than Obama is a fatal blow to McCain. In my opinion, Obama has much better judgment on Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, and Russia.

I think the first half went to Obama and the second half went to McCain so it was a tie.

Obama won clearly in my opinion.

He seemed a lot more confident, and his answers made a lot of sense. McCain wouldn't make eye contact and though his answers seemedknowledgeablee, after the debate they showed that many of his key points were lies. Obama's answers were very clear, and I think he ha a much better stratedgy about Iraq then McCain who plans to keep us there.

Obama.

If for no other reason than he held his own against McCain, thus putting a dent in the "experience" argument.

And McCain lost if for no other reason than he wouldn't look at Obama. And he kept making chuckling noises and smirks during Obama's answers. It was probably meant to convey amusement, but it came off as rude.

Barrack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I feel that tatically McCain won. If you think about it objectively he gave more concise answers and weaseled slightly less than Obama did on Lehrer's question on what would you give up in your plan.

However it was a strategic Obama victory. All he needed to do was come across Ok and not blowup and do something stupid in the debate. Which he did not do. He didn't look at his watch like Bush the elder, do weird shit like Al Gore, answer a Kitty Dukakis raped and murdered Q or get creamed like Jimmy Carter.

Barrack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

McCain.

Obama started off showing that he had a grasp of his VERY rehearsed talking points, but the more the night went on, the more flustered Obama became and the more ridiculous he looked while McCain slowly and methodically picked him to pieces.

Pols regarding the debates say Obama clearly won.

Nearly every pundit said Obama won.

The election polls across the nation are most clear though.....Obama has a dominant lead in the campaign right now.

Obama won.

Obama won cleanly, he was calm, clear and to the point. McCain was angry, lecturing, more like a bitter back-bencher than a President. No one who refuses to look a colleague or respected fellow citizen or even a competitor in the eye and speak to him should ever be elected President of anything! his body language was horrid
