such as laurell K hamilton's Anita Blake or the sookie stackhouse series. Although I know that the first Anita Blake came out in 1993 and Sookie started in like 2001, both settings are fairly similar (even though the stories are not) with vampires "coming out of the coffin" and trying to live normal lives. Are there any other books like that? (please, not like Twilight)

well, I haven't read Dracula or Interview W/ the Vampire, I have read other books by Anne Rice and I have seen the movie, I was under the impression that, while the vampires were living on a modern time (or modern at that time) people didn't know of their existence (or at least not a lot of people). I remember, if I am not mistaken, that in the movie, interview with the vampire, the reporter didn't believe Louis was a vampire until he proved he was one (so I am under the impression that vampires were not "out there")
I really don't know about Dracula. I remember in Van Helsing, people knew about vampires, including Dracula, for example.
But most of the ones I've read are about vampires hidden in a modern setting. Which is not the same as what I am asking.
