Who was the better Dumbledore?

Been watching all 4 Harry Potter films all weekend & been analysing the performances of Dumbledore from both Richard Harris & Michael Gambon. I do like both and its hard to even compare them to one another as both are played so differently however I do think Harris was slightly better as he is more how I imagined Dumbledore in my head as a quiet whispering voiced leader who showed more from his looks and facial expressions than his actual acting. Gambon is also good but is more talkative, in your face and direct.

Its a shame Harris had to die so soon as I'd have liked both actors to have played the role in more equal amount of films.

Richard Harris for me. :)

Michael Gambon is pretty good but not how I imagined Dumbledore when I read the books. For me, Dumbledore's very subtle and has a great sense of humour and for me, that doesn't always shine through with Gambon.

I would've loved to have seen Sir Ian McKellen play Dumbledore....I think that could've worked well.

xx

Richard Harris for me to.

I'm not that much in to following the ins and outs of the films but I know Gambon hasn't read the books and hasn't looked in to how Dumbledore is in them. I also didn't like his reaction when Harry's name came out the goblet in the latest film.

Harris' Dumbledore was good for the first two films which were rather magically and generally quite light in tone. Gambon's slightly gruffer, but still as enigmatic Dumbledore has fitted in well with the different tone of the two most recent films. I really couldn't imagine Harris' Dumbledore in GoF.

Harris did a better job, but to tell the truth I haven't liked the way the last two films have been directed, ok GOF was ok but PoA was awful maybe I woulda liked Gambon better if I had liked the films...
