Who types books? Does the writer type the book or the publisher? I'm confused?

Okay i know that you send your manuscript blah blah blah, but the books on shelves in stores and stuff who types the books. is it the manuscript that the writer did, or does the publisher re-type the whole book
 
I would venture to say that it is the publishing house (after the manuscript has been proofed, corrections made, that type of thing). I believe that's part of what a publisher does in addition to publicity, book signing, etc......
