Any body who has been keeping a close eye on the Eels 7 game winning streak in to the finals and throughout the finals series will note that Jarryd Hayne is the Michael Jordan of the NRL because he is such a ball hog.
Sure he is great athlete and he can do anything: 40/20, chip and chase, dummy, fake step and stride; and he has amazing agility and speed but he his the biggest HOG in the history of the game.
Good example last night against the dogs in the 2nd half he ran with ball for about 35 seconds laterally not gaining any metres at all until he finally threw a pass to the left wing which resulted in a no-try decision by the video-ref. What a waste of time!
Thoughts anyone?
O.K. Its one thing to try come up with a miraculous during a stalemate but its another thing entirely to hog the ball in the process!
Sure he is Dally M winner this year, but I still think that Billy Slater should be the Australian fullback for the end of year tour.
Watch Slater step up tonight he truly is a machine!
To Knights 10: Do you seriously think that Ben Roberts is hog? If you were watching the Footy Show on Thursday night he actually made more try assists and line breaks than Kimmorley this year.
To Daniel P: It doesn't matter whether it was a pass or kick if he actually chose to take the tackle instead of HOGGING the ball for 40 seconds and then making a poor attempt at a try assist then they probably would have ended scoring a try!
To Knights 10 : You are misunderstanding what I am saying. Hayne gets way too many ball carries where he will run laterally and to me , look very indecisive and then will finally pass or kick after gaining no metres at all.
Sure I would say about 45% of the time he will do something miraculous nut he needs to focus on injecting himself at the right moments otherwise he will not be able to maintain his current from because of he will become disillusioned with nothing ball carries and runs.
QUALITY OVER QUANTITY
By the way Preston Campbell was in exactly the same form as Jarryd Hayne is now back in 2001 when he won the Dally M award with the Sharks.
He was constantly threatening the defense with his stepping and footwork and just generally annoying the bigger forwards who had no idea what he was going to do.
So just because Hayne is in this type of form now does not mean he will carry it into the future.
Knights 10:
Peter Sterling made that comment last night about 'quality over quantity' with his runs.
The advantage that Hayne has is size because not only is extremely fast with great footwork but also has bulk which means he can bust through defense close to the try-line if need be and throw a last-minute offload if he cant score himself. I still think that he hogs it though because there are players in the Eels that can hit 40/20s like Daniel Mortimer and Mateo or even Inu
One of the main reasons Hayne has stepped up his form so dramatically is because Brett Finch moved on and he had to take a lot of the burden after that with Mateo injured most of the season as well.
Hayne is a hog and the fact that Daniel Anderson condones this style of play highlights the lack of confidence that he has in his other players .
Do you see any body in Melbourne playing the way Jarryd Hayne does? No,because they have tons of rep experience and depth and the coach has confidence in all players.
Hey 'Answerer dude' I did not say that at all.
If you have been reading all of my posts will understand that Jarryd Hayne gets too much of the ball . He is not going to do something amazing every time he gets the ball.
He needs to learn how to make proper assists at the right times.
Just because he won the Dally M Medal this year does not mean that that his career best form is better than the career- best form of Billy Slater last year for example when Slater won the Golden Boot award for being the best player not just in Australia but the world; or even that his career best form is better than Thurston's form in 2005 when he won his first Dally M award. Its just that he his better than most other players this year according to the award criteria.
To Knights 10; In reference to your 'witty' remarks about Jarryd Hayne, I do not think that is the appropriate word to use. I think the appropriate description for Jarryd Hayne's game should be;
"run back and forth not gaining any metres".
How does create 'gaps in defense" by doing that? He is nowhere near defenders when he does those types of runs and if you look closely defenders hold their ground and he does not draw them in at all because they know that he is going to do a ridiculous pass or kick at the end which only comes off because of the sheer randomness of it.
Hey 'answerer dude' you should have read the posts because there is relevant information pertaining to your comment.
Jarryd Hayne is the biggest ball hog in the NRL period.
In my well-informed opinion you should not base your opinion on one game that you have seen Hayne play because he has been HOGGING against every team in the past 9 weeks. He HOGGED against St George in both wins (which does not suggest he was the reason behind their victories.) He HOGGED against the Titans and he HOGGED against the Bulldogs last night.
Sorry St George thrashed the Eels 37- 0 in round 26 . And you know why because Jarryd Hayne hardly HOGGED the ball that night!
